There was a time when people came to India from different parts of world to learn the mystic arts, yoga, meditation, vedas, ayurveda, vedic maths, ancient science, spirituality from different sages.
They came to receive the knowledge from Takshashila University, Nalanda University Vikramashila University and so on! And these universities were not set up by a businessman for earning money!
Books were treated as a means of knowledge. But today we allow books to rule the education system, it instructs our instructors ( teachers ) and kills the individuality of a student and teacher! The present age teachers teach the students from the prescribed books and students are meant to learn the content present in it!
We must remember that books are just a collection of papers where teachers pour their knowledge so a student can use it for multiple times as a reference and recollection!
We live in a shallow society where we allow a book to decide the kind of knowledge exchange taking place in class! Teachers have no freedom to chose the topic, they're forced to stick to just the contents given by a particular organization and are also time framed so that they do not get to teach the real life skills to the students!
When we allow the books to command the teachers, we really kill the passion in students and teachers too. It also leads to the assassination of creativity!
Books are important, but they should be treated as a tool to learn, not as our personal teacher itself. Because a human deserves getting taught by a human and learn human values first; not getting taught by a book!
Coming back to ancient education system, our ancestors worshipped books but they never became the puppets of books! The schools and universities were not meant for 3rd party's benefit for earning $100000 profit!
And the sages had a passion of teaching and getting their shishya ( student ) involved in the research work!
Population was less and we didn't have a rote learning system. People only executed a task only after understanding it fully, and also knowing the consequences of it! Our ancestors took responsibility for their actions!
Our agenda was not to earn degree, not to get any of our works patented. We didn't believe in just sitting in a classroom waiting for the bell to be rung and open another subject's book. For us marks weren't important, percentage was nowhere a deciding factor and we never labeled a student based on it's grades.
Our ancestors chose our teachers based on their degrees, we chose them by their experience, knowledge and wisdom!
"The schools and universities of today are built for economies and not for humanity!"
Literacy level has definitely increased. More number of schools continue to open. More funds are getting allocated for the education! And than there's a strong campaign for girls education! Like marks, statistics are numbers too! Don't be shallow enough to judge the system by these numbers and graphs!
We tend to judge a school by it's records and not it's atmosphere and culture! I hope we get out of never ending politics and allow the education institutes to be run by a conceptualist!
There's a strong need to introduce little bit of indiscipline in the process of learning!
If we focus on human values, psychology, philosophy rather than business, expansion and profit - than it will surely leave a positive impact on our educational institutes and systems!
